The Opti Opening, the first Optimist class regatta of the year, took place from 7th to 9th March. We were delighted to welcome 265 sailors from 18 countries! Sailors came from Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Spain, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Malta, Poland, Slovenia, Serbia, Switzerland, Slovakia, Sweden, Thailand and Ukraine.
Five races were sailed during the qualification. On the first day, sailors sailed in light winds of 5-7 knots. On the second day they sailed three qualifying races in north-westerly winds up to 8 knots. The third day saw the final races, with one race in each category - Gold, Silver and Bronze fleets. The wind (mistral and south-westerly) reached a maximum of 8 knots before dying down, prompting the Optimists to return to shore.
The Rookies sailed four races on Saturday and Sunday.
