The Piran Bay transformed into a high-speed arena this weekend for Foil Fight 2026, hosting the Slovenian Open Championship for the International Moth class alongside the Wing Foil Open and Formula Wing categories.
The regatta kicked off on Friday with ideal conditions for the "Formula 1s" of the sailing world. The International Moth fleet took full advantage of the breeze, successfully completing four races. The sight of these carbon-fiber machines flying above the Adriatic set a high bar for the rest of the event.
Saturday morning required a bit of patience as the race committee waited for the thermal breeze to settle. By the afternoon, the Maestral filled in with a steady 5–10 knots. The Moths were once again the stars of the day, squeezing in another four races to solidify the leaderboard.
For the Wing Foil and Formula Wing classes, the light wind proved more challenging. Despite the wings needing a bit more pressure to stay on the foils, the organizers and athletes displayed great persistence, successfully completing one race in marginal conditions.
On the final day of the regatta, despite the best efforts of the race committee, the wind stayed below the minimum required for foiling. With no further races possible, the event concluded with a Prize Giving Ceremony at Jadralni klub PIRAT.
The fleet featured world-class talent, and the podium reflected the high level of competition:
Overall Open Winner: The legendary Šime Fantela (JK Sv. Krševan) claimed the top spot with a dominant performance.
Second Place Overall: Tomaž Čopi (JK Pirat)
Third Place Overall: Pavle Kostov (JK Uskok)
Slovenian National Championship (Moth Class)
The event also determined the national titles for Slovenia. Tomaž Čopi added another trophy to his cabinet, becoming the Slovenian National Champion. He was followed by Luka Tomori in second place and Miha Truden in third.
