Pirat Sailing Club is happy to announce the winners of the 24th edition of the Easter Regatta for the optimists, this year proudly sponsored by Sailing Point, the biggest Slovenian nautical shop.

And even more - it is really nice to see three Slovenian sailors claiming the podium! The winner of the Sailing Point Easter Regatta is Italian Lorenzo Bassu, the second goes to Slovenian sailor Daniel Cante (JK Izola), and the third to Martin Fras from the same club. The best girl was Antonia Schultheis, sailing for Malta, the second Nina Škopac from Croatia and the third Italian sailor Luisa Penso. The win in the boys-caddets competition went to Slovenian Luka Zabukovec from JK Jadro Koper, the second was claimed by Italian Massimiliano Antoniazzi, the thurd place went to Hungarian sailor Attila Banyai. In the girls – caddets competition the win went to Lucija Škopac, the second was another Croatian sailor Nora Šijan (both from JK Clivo), and the third place went to German Louisa Muller.

No less than 527 young sailors from 14 countries aged 7-15 gathered in Portorož for the three days event. Most of them came from Austria and Germany, lots from the neighbouring Italy, Croatia and Hungary, and the rest were from Czech Republic, Slovak Republic, Turkey, Malta, Ukraine, Moldavia, Azerbajdzan and Latvia. The sailors were devided into three groups, each one sailed six races in mild, almost spring temperatures and low to moderate winds.

Miro Čarman, the president of the race committee: »The young sailors sailed six very nice races. The only problem we were coping with was a huge number of the OCSs, since so many of them were crossing the starting line too early. It looks like there were plenty of pretty unexperienced sailors among them, and since it is the beginning of the sailing seasson, this is kind of understandable. We were very lucky regrding the wind, which was much better than forecasted.«

It has already become a tradition, that our Easter Regatta is not only a great sailing event, but also a very cool party for the kids. Saturday s sailing was followed by the fun lottery with some really nice prizes, but, as always, we saved the best for last. After the big prize-giving ceremony on the Sunday afternoon, it was just not yet time to go home. It was time for a big withdrawing! 15 vouchers for various sailing gear and the One Sails opimist sail were just a warm-up before the main prize was withdrawn – a Devoti Opimist sailing boat! After quite some years, this time she stayed in Slovenia.

As usually, the young sailors, their parents, coaches and the guests were welcomed also by the mayor of the Piran municipality Peter Bossman, who is a huge supporter of sailing and our Pirat sailing club.

Vera Maraspin Čarman, the head of the organizing committee of the Sailing Point Easter Regatta:  »We are extremely honoured more and more sailors are attending our regatta every year. This year, the number of participating sailors was the biggest so far. There was a lot of hard work invested in the race from our Pirat Sailing Club members and I really have to thank them for their dedication. We are also extremely thrilled about the number of participatng countries. I guess the word of mouth just does its job. And we are also very happy that almost 200 sailors stayed here already a week before the race for the training camp, which is also a great opportunity for the Porotorož tourism.

Pirat Sailing Club is kindly thanking its sponsors for their dedicated support: the nautical shop Sailing Point for the title sponsoring and Piran Municipality, Bernardin Hotels, Portorož City, Portorož Tourist Board, One Sails Slovenia, Fonda, Interexpo, Rooster, Bulb, Sandiline and Vigrad.

Mitja Margon from Sailing Point: “We have been partners with Pirat Sailing Club and with this race for a long time already, so becoming a title sponsor was a logical step forward, aiming even more recognition of our brand also in a wider, European area. We are really happy with the cooperation so far, and we are gladly giving the earnings from the sales on the Easter Regatta back to the club as a sponsorship.«

Marjan Matevljič, president of the Pirat Sailing Club: “More and more sailors attend this race every year and it has already become the second biggest Opti race in this part of the world (if not worldwide
J) I am very happy about that and would like to thank young sailors, their parents and coaches for being here this year and also would like to invite them to join us again next year!«
