Sunday was another action packed day at the Sailing Point Easter Regatta in Portorož. Race management split the fleet into Gold, Silver, Bronze, Emerald and Pearl divisions with 90 sailors each.

After a short postponement from the race committee, as they waited for the sea breeze to fill in, the competitors witnessed the wind build to a steady 7 knots and at 12:30 the first signal was sounded in order to mark the beginning of the final day.

Gold fleet had the honor to test the waters first and racing got seriously close with last year's winner Luka Zabukovec commanding the front of the group. Actually, the whole Slovenian team has shown strong competition and determination throughout the penultimate race as Alja Petrič crossed the finishing line third followed closely by her younger brother Maj Petrič on fourth place.

In race 7 the breeze built to 15 knots and some competitors were keen to be on the front row of the start line. Unfortunately, some errors were made and a couple of sailors had to be disqualified for being over the line within the one-minute time signal. Among them was also Zabukovec, but luckily the mistake did not cost the Slovenian anything in terms of the final scoring. Lisa Vucetti, on the other hand, put up a strong fight once again and sealed the deal with another impressive victory. Toni Messeritsch from Austria rounded out the top three.

"It is fantastic to see so many different nationalities represented here in Portorož and the level of competition which we had on display was incredible. Many teams keep returning year after year and you can tell they feel confident and comfortable in our waters, which is a huge value to any sailor," says the president of the organising committee Marjan Matevljič, whose mind is already focused on pulling together the next big event - the 470 Junior World Championship in July 2019.

Every year, Sailing Point store, the main sponsor of the event, offers also the chance of winning a brand new optimist boat in the mega prize draw and this year, the luckiest sailor was Sofia Viviani from Italy.

A special thanks goes to all those partners who have very kindly donated prizes and offered a whole host of special offers to make the 27. Sailing Point Easter Regatta a truly mega competition.
