PORTOROZ, October 20, 2019 - The relatively sunny autumn weekend in Portorož welcomed close to 180 young sailors at the traditional Optimist Halloween regatta organised by the Sailing Club Pirat of Portoroz for the eighth consecutive year. This year's regatta was also considered a national championship for Slovenian sailors.

All three days were dominated by winds from the south, which allowed the organiser to complete all nine planned races by early afternoon on Sunday. 175 adventure eager young sailors from Austria, Hungary, Italy, Slovakia and Slovenia were divided into gold and silver groups on Sunday, based on the points achieved in the first two races. With a lot of good will and a desire to get as high as possible, they sailed the sails, thus embarking on the last hunt for the opportunities offered by the wind.

With a great performance, the regatta was deservedly won by the Italian Kim Magnani (SN Laguna), second place went to Maj Petrič (JK Jadro Koper) and third was Giuseppe Montesano (TPK Sirena). The best girl was Yelyzaveta Levandovska (PD Piran), ahead of Aurora Ambrož (JK Cup) and Aljo Petrič (JK Jadro Koper).

Bojan Gale, race committee lead: "We had three exceptional sailing days and a lot of luck with the wind, that allowed us to fully implement the planned race program. Based of there feedback coaches and sailors are pleased too. Judges and the entire race committee are here at the service of sailors, so in that spirit we tried to do everything in our power to satisfy their expectations - both at sea and on land. "

Marjan Matevljič, head of the organizing committee of the regatta: "We are pleased to have completed the Haloween regatta and the national championship in such ideal conditions. In total, we have performed as many as nine quality regattas that have shown the talent of the real winners. This year the representation of the foreign competitors was lower than expected, we are particularly missing the teams from Austria who have always been welcome at JK Pirat.
